Privacy policy
ReadMe collects no data. The documents you open are read on your Mac and are never sent anywhere, by the app or by us.
Effective 11 October 2026. This policy covers the ReadMe app for Mac and this website, readme.frostycle.com.
The app
- Your files stay on your Mac. ReadMe reads the documents you open and, if you allow it, the images in their folder, and nothing else. It runs in Apple’s App Sandbox, which limits it to those files. The Quick Look preview reads only the file you are previewing.
- Nothing goes online. Every font, script and stylesheet is bundled with the app, and the pages it renders are blocked from loading anything from the internet, images included. The app carries Apple’s outgoing-network permission only because the system’s web engine, which draws the pages, needs it to start inside the sandbox.
- No account, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party code that collects data.
- Stored on your Mac only. macOS keeps the list of recently opened files for File › Open Recent, and ReadMe keeps your appearance setting and the folders you gave it access to. You can clear the recent list from that menu at any time.
Information Apple shares with us
Apple handles purchases and downloads under its own privacy policy and shares only totals with us, such as the number of downloads by country. If you have chosen to share analytics with app developers in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, Apple may also share anonymous crash reports, which we use only to fix bugs.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or third-party scripts. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver the pages and protect them from abuse, as described in Cloudflare’s privacy policy. If you choose light or dark mode, that choice is saved in your browser and never sent to us.
If you email us
We use your email address and message only to reply to you, and we delete them on request. Please don’t attach files that contain personal or confidential data.
Children
ReadMe collects no information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
